Various tracks I've produced with music software. It all started with a PC app called Impulse Tracker back in the 90s. 

I fiddled with an early version of Propellerhead Rebirth-338 before really getting into it with Propellerhead Reason with its virtual rack. For me the fun thing about it was being able to shape sound all within software. 

I grew up on 80s music and that was an era when New Wave dominated the dorm rooms and dance floors of my high school. 

At the time, I could only dream of some day playing with musical intstruments which were practically unattainable. Many of those hardware synths are only maintained by collectors or hardware archives. But fast forward to the present and here we are with all the technology available to us even on little phones in your pocket. Music technology has evolved quite a bit and it's crazy.

This website is a personal project based on a tech stack powered by JavaScript.

Framework is running on NextJS with its React DOM hydration feature. Persistence is provided by MongoDB. CSS Styling is based on a combination of TailwindCSS for published pages, and forms use the React JSON Schema Form modules for declarative approach. This also started out as my sandbox in my experiments with Facebook's Draft.js and visual page authoring is currently built around Megadraft.js.

I realized that many of today's modern WebKit based apps that specialize in content creation and authoring now take advantage of ASTs as provided for by Unified, Remark and Rehype which is a far more elegant way of manipulating textual data like plain text and Markdown.

Testament to Markdown's explosion in popularity are the exciting developments in the Obsidian.md project which is a superb and highly extensible tool for Personal Knowledge Management. It is no big surprise that its plugins are also based Unified, Remark and Rehype.

On the image processing side of things, I am currently using Sharp for generating the various renditions of photos you will find across these pages, coming soon. I extract various metadata embedded in photos from my Adobe Lightroom Classic and Apple Photos libraries and add some annotation during the ingestion phase. Bits and pieces of information are extracted from EXIF and IPTC embedded in the images themselves as well basic filesystem attributes. Here is one such photo album, The Year in Photos for 2022 and another tag-based view for Photos from Italy.

Hooked on Phonetiks was a Drum'n'Bass track from 2007. I think I produced this on the Yamaha Motif XS-7 then probably tracked with Ableton Live. Can you guess where this photo was taken?

New Order's Bizaare Love Triangle was a dance floor classic from the 80s. This remix was from somebody else's MIDI sequence which I loaded into Reason 2.5. This was one of my very first projects in that application. Started with an M-Audo Oxygen 8 as my MIDI controller.

I stopped using Reason for several years then a couple of years ago, upgraded to Reason 11. That's quite a bit of a jump but thank goodness the folks at Reason Studios in Sweden are pretty good with keeping backwards compatibility with previous versions. It's a fun and very powerful app and you should try the demo!
